The Royal Train visits South Wales
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited South Wales over the 26th/27th April 2012 on the Diamond Jubilee tour of South Wales. On the first day of the Diamonds tour, the Royal couple arrived into Cardiff Central by the Royal train. The Royal couple immediately visited Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff for a service of thanksgiving before travelling to Margam Park to meet the Grand Slam winning Welsh rugby team. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh viewed a community festival and had lunch in the Orangery. The Royal couple would then later visit Meryhyr visiting Cyfarthfa High School and the Castle Museum. After staying at Rhiwderin, the second day of the Diamond Jubilee tour started at Aberfan where the Royal Couple unveiled a plaque at the new Ynysowen Community Primary School in Aberfan, 46years following the horrific Aberfan disaster of 1966. The Royal Couple visited Ebbw Vale and met former steel workers and museum volunteers at a newly refurbished works general office as well as attending a service in the town's Christ Church and met community groups in a reception. The Royal couple also attended a 'Diamonds in the Park' Festival in Glanusk park near Crickhowell which featured many rural and sport activities. The Royal couple would then later return to London by the royal train. I photographed the Royal train during their visit to South Wales several times.
