The working was operated by WCRC and the Growler would return to Carnforth as 0Z38 via Leeds. 23/12/2012.

DB Schenker's 60091 rounds the curve at Magor hauling the 6G47 Westerleigh to Margam empty murco bogie tanks on the 23rd December 2012. The 6B13 yesterday arrived Westerleigh at 17:07 over 300minutes late after being held in Cardiff Central station for most of the morning. The train was delayed by a signal power failure and flooding.

DRS 37607 (ex-37511) leads 6264, 977868 and 37603 (ex-37504) on the 1Q14 Crewe LNW&R to Crewe LNW&R via Holyhead and Blaenau Ffestiniog at Rhosneigr on the Isle of Anglesey, returning from Holyhead. The Growlers departed Holyhead at 1408, 7minutes early and were following the 1A48 13:58 Holyhead to London Euston Virgin super voyager service on the 18th December 2012.

On the 18th December 2012, DRS 37603 leads Network Rail testing vehicles 977868 and 6264 with recently overhauled and repainted 37607 on the rear at Penmaenmawr on the North Wales coastline, working the 1Q14 Crewe LNW&R to Crewe LNW&R via Holyhead and Blaenau Ffestiniog test train. The DB Schenker operated service passes a Class 221 Virgin super voyager working as the 1A38 12:24 Bangor to London Euston.
On the 18th December 2012, The Stratford 47 Group's Br Blue 47580 "County of Essex" sporting the Union jack flag makes a superb sight at Sawley, Breaston as it powers the 45minute early, 6Z54 10:00 Chaddesdon to Shipley empty scrap train. The spoon was on hire to DCR and then ran light engine to York NRM taking 50008 back to Washwood Heath. The loco should return to the Mid-Norfolk Railway briefly tomorrow to move a shunter to Norwich Crown Point.

On the 16th December 2012, Chiltern 67013 leads the 5H31 10:13 Birmingham Moor Street to London Marylebone at Hatton on the 16th December 2012. The service was cancelled due to a door fault which resulted in the train returning to London empty.

The final cruise saver train ran using a specially buffed up 47810 top and tailing with 47501 on the 1Z92 10:33 Southampton Western Docks to Edinburgh at Hatton North junction. This operation has provided much welcome DRS variety with 47s being the staple power with the odd pair of 37s occasionally thrown in. There is still expected to be a boat train operation in 2013 but through barrhead travel with DB 67s the anticipated traction.
Saturday 15th December was the first Saturday of the new timetable with Chiltern introducing loco hauled services at weekends for the first time. I photographed 67013 propelling the 1R25 London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street at Hatton North junction (82302 leading). The set was in reverse formation with the recently introduced refurbished plug door set.

DB Schenker's 60092 accelerates over the high speed flat crossing at Newark whilst powering the mighty 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury loaded oil tanks on the 8th December 2012. When released from Toton after refurbishment, the brush built loco was originally allocated 'paint' but due to the shortage of locos because of the sandite season and the failure of 60059 at the time, a few weeks forward and the tug still soldiers on in rather tatty plain two-tone grey livery having lost its EWS yellow sticker in the process of an extensive overhaul. It is expected that the locomotive will enter the paintshop at Toton this coming week or very shortly.
Since being reinstated following refurbishment, 60092 has worked the 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury three times now on a Saturday. Possibly for the last time in former EWS two tone Grey, 60092 powers through Branston with the 6M57 on the 8th December 2012 after being looped south of Burton on Trent to allow a class '170' and voyager to pass. The train had missed its initial allocated stop at Stenson junction but awaited time at Branston anyway. With 66068 departing Kingsbury early with the 6E54 to Humber and with a clear path, the train was sent out of Elford loop (south of Branston) around half an hour early.
Alongside 60092 in the refurbishment programme was 60017. DB Schenker's 60017 making a welcome return to the mainline, blasts through Branston south of Burton upon Trent working the 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury loaded oil tanks on the 3rd November 2012. This photograph is taken from the new footbridge at Branston which has replaced the foot crossing, although there are still question marks with regards to a public crossing at this particular spot. Note the driver has displayed the headcode of this freight train '6M57' in the cab window.
One of the most popular class '60s' amongst railway enthusiasts is 60059 which unfortunately no longer carries its famous Loadhaul orange and black livery. 60007/8/25/38 and 59 all once carried Loadhaul livery. After a long period out through refurbishment, DB Schenker's 60059 now a 'Super Tug' hauls the 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury loaded oil tanks at North Staffordshire junction on the approach to Willington, catching a lucky glimpse of sunshine. 60059 sadly lost its Loadhaul livery but unlike the majority of class '60s' which have been reinstated, it did retain its 'Swinden Dalesman' nameplates.
DB Schenker's 60092 formerly named 'Reginald Munns' heads the 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury loaded oil tanks at Stenson junction on the 1st December 2012. The train was now slightly late after waiting its booked time at Stenson bubble and being pathed behind a late running voyager. 60092 is currently the only class '60' out on the mainline in the original two-tone grey livery.
Flying Scotsman liveried 91101 flies north through Claypole working the 1S14 11:30 London Kings Cross to Edinburgh service on the 8th December 2012. The '91' had been slightly delayed as was following 66562 running over 200minutes late on the 4E62 Felixstowe to Scunthorpe which was looped at Claypole (can be seen in the distance in the photo). A total of 31 of the powerful '91' were built.
A very rural shot as I opted for a side elevation for this attempt. East Coast's Battle of Britain liveried 91110 built by BREL at Crewe works heads the 1D15 13:03 London Kings Cross to Leeds service at Claypole on the 8th December 2012. 91110 (originally 91010) holds the record for the fastest British railway locomotive having set a record speed of 162mph at Stoke Bank during a test run on the September 17th 1989.

DB Schenker's 60063 rumbles through Scawby hauling the 6D31 Lindsey to West Burton oil tanks on the 16th November 2012. The train was off route working via the Brigg line to refresh the driver's route knowledge.
On the 16th November 2012, the South Yorkshire RHTT opted to spray the Brigg line as far as Northorpe instead of visiting Grimsby as usual on a Friday. DRS old liveried 20303 leads 20301 on the 3S13 Wrenthorpe to Wrawby junction via Northorpe, heading south at Scawby which is just south of Brigg. The RHTT train containing sandite, would reverse at Northorpe before returning to Wrawby junction.

Freightliner 66504 pushes 70099 working as the delayed 0Z62 10:14 Crewe Basford Hall to Loughborough brush works into Loughborough Brush works on the 23rd October 2012. 70099 was built for Turkish railways and recently arrived by boat into Newport and was then transferred to Crewe. It was moved today to Brush works at Loughborough for work to be carried to allow it to be tested by as yet unannounced freight operators. For some more photographs please click here.

Colas Rail 56094 was trialled for the first time on the Teigngrace Timber on the 19th September 2012 instead of the usual booked Colas class 66/8. After 66708 worked 6V01, the loco was substitued for Rainbow liveried 66720 which has recently been used on scrap duties and on a private tour to Paignton. On the 31st July 2012, 66720 heads the 6E01 Cardiff Docks to Immingham under the M48 Severn Bridge nearing Chepstow. 66708 will now work the 6Z33 Cardiff Tidal to Beeston.
On the 25th July 2012, GBRf Rainbow 66720 departs Branston loop, Burton and is captured working the 6V88 Beeston to Newport Docks at Branston.
On the 20th July 2012, GBRf Rainbow liveried 66720 struggles through Purton working the earlier pathed 6V88 Beston to Newport Docks loaded scrap.
